Crimes of survival = rationalizing stealing. Churches used to be able to minister to the homeless. But too many people screamed about churches getting government funding to do the job. Govt can’t handle the job. So now we have poor people committing property crimes and low-level infractions in order to secure their basic survival. And the new theory is that enforcement of survival-crime laws is thus a violation of their basic human rights and should be decriminalized.
