How to survive an active shooter!

Nov 14, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 7:55 pm PST

There’s more to it than just a “gun” issue.

It’s up to us to keep the kids safe without turning the schools into a penitentiary.

Why didn’t we have school shootings in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s? We actually had guns ON the campuses back then and had classes on how to shoot them!

Dr. Bridget Melson, PsyD, MFT, talks about her study of mass shooters. There is a genetic component, environmental component, mental health component, and now a social media component.

80% of the 300+ shooters that she’s studied have had anti-social and/or loner type of behaviors. That doesn’t mean everyone with those tendencies is a risk. But it does mean we need to pay attention and help these people cope better with life.

“Going postal” has now become “mass shootings”.

When we were kids, we were outside playing with other kids. There was a sense of community.

Drug use is significantly down with teens. But violence is up. That’s the new high.

TV and devices are literally frying children’s brain development in the center that’s critical to impulse control.
