Matthew Corrigan

Matthew Corrigan Ph.D. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Florida. He is a graduate of University of Notre Dame and received his Masters and PhD from the University of Florida in 1995. His research interests include Southern politics, Florida politics and the American Presidency.

He has been chair of the Department for eight years where he has led a program review and accreditation for the graduate program. The Department has over 300 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate students. He served as an external reviewer for the University of West Florida in 2013. He is the founding faculty director of the Public Opinion Research Lab on campus which performed over $500,000 in funded research. He is a member of the American Association of Public Opinion Research and he has extensive experience in program evaluation.

His book, Race, Religion and Economic Change was published in 2007 by University Press of Florida. His second book American Royalty that focuses on the Clinton and Bush families was published in May of 2008. His current book on Jeb Bush’s governorship in Florida called Conservative Hurricane: How Jeb Bush Remade Florida.

During the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election, Dr. Corrigan was a consultant to Duval County, Florida and assisted county leaders in reforming the county’s voting system. He is a two-time past-President of the Florida Political Science Association. He also has served as a Florida consultant to the Associated Press during the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 elections. He has been quoted in hundreds of media outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today. With support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, he began the Foundations of Local Government initiative in 2010 – to provide public officials a place to think and talk about important policy issues.

Dr. Corrigan lives in Jacksonville Florida with his wife Mary and son John and daughter Jane.
