Not 1/3 the way through the A’s…

OK, I took a minute, I’m calm…  Well, NOT REALLY!

As in my previous post, I stated that the Eugene (Oregon) City Council decided that the Pledge of Allegiance was divisive. HMMMMM… let’s look at that. YES, I actually agree.

“ONE NATION”… that would divide us from the rest of the world… “INDIVISIBLE”… a contradiction you say? NO…
We are UNDIVIDED AS THESE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I am part of America whether I eat chitterlings or caviar.
I will help my brother American from the South, New England, the Southwest, or wherever.

And then there’s that “liberty and justice for all” thing…
That is VERY divisive. WHY?

Because it separates us from MANY other countries.

Liberty to pursue our careers, to pursue education whether you be male or female.
Liberty to live wherever we want, move when we want.

Justice… HMMM a jury of peers, NOT dictators, or that instant justice thing where they whip you in the street because too much of your ANKLE was showing!

We have forgotten what we have in this country because we have had it for so long. A simple patriotic action like Pledging Allegiance to America is now becoming an issue?

Do you think our forefathers would have an issue with this?
I believe they pledged allegiance with out uttering a word. They gave everything for this country.
Were they being DIVISIVE? You BET they were! They wanted to be DIVIDED from England so they could have FREEDOM.
Thankfully, THEY BOTHERED to give it all (in reference to the Council member who said they had more important things to deal with!).

To the one Council member who said… “reciting the pledge was like reciting the communist manifesto…”
I’m surprised lightning didn’t strike them.
HOW INSULTING! Yes, she has the freedom to say that, and YES, I have the freedom to be MAJOR LEAGUE INSULTED…!

Lets not forget the great line from one Council person, “The Pledge is something someone does in private!” (bang! thud!) REALLY?  Come on!

Check out what locals had to say.

SO I have decided to BOYCOTT EUGENE and it’s BUSINESSES.

Please join me by signing the petition at:
Each Eugene City Council member will receive an email for every signature. We CAN make a difference!

Better yet, call one of the Council members:

The Pledge of Allegiance is Divisive?

This comes from the people that say it’s OK to ride your bikes naked in the streets (I want to be there and watch at 20 below zero!)
The vote was 5-0 in favor of NOT requiring it. HOWEVER they compromised. (Thank God our founding fathers didn’t compromise).

One council person said… The City Council has plenty of other issues to deal with that are far more pressing than trying to decide whether to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of its meetings.

I beg to DIFFER, BIG TIME! Who are you up there for? Who do you represent? One council member said she is a “citizen of the world”. Really?  Then who is responsible for her safety when she travels abroad? The United States Military? NO! It would have to be the United Nations forces, maybe? She is a citizen of the WORLD…  How ridiculous is this? Many people in this country are starting to have this thought process. REALLY. Did our founding fathers start this country to give it up to the WORLD?? They wanted us to be EXAMPLES to the world. This COUNTRY, even with all its issues, is still the greatest country in the WORLD. We have freedoms here people are dying for on other parts of this globe.

I wonder what laws that women who is a “Citizen of the World” wants to follow? Iranian? Chinese? And when she goes to an International airport, what passport does she carry? Where exactly does one apply for a “Citizen of the World” passport?

BUT, what it boiled down to was “Under God”. They had a problem with that phrase. The one that was added in 1954 and voted on by CONGRESS, you know, those guys that make our laws for THIS country.

One council member said “reciting the pledge is like reading the communist manifesto”…. let that sink in.
These people got what they ELECTED… an idiot representing them.

Do Americans not realize the reason they have a right to do these idiotic things is because of the American Constitution and the laws of THIS country. The reason they sometimes get away with a little more in other countries is because of the strength of this country. Look at what is happening on a daily basis when it comes to HUMAN persecution in other countries, again China, Iran, among others.

People wake up… Stand up or lose your freedom….

If you do nothing, you deserve whatever comes down on you…

School Surveys 7th-Graders on Oral Sex

A middle school in Massachusetts is under fire for requiring children to complete a graphic sex survey — without parental knowledge or consent — that included questions about sexual partners and oral sex.

The Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties organization, filed a complaint with the U.S. Dept. of Education against the Fitchburg School Committee. They are representing the two middle school-aged daughters of Arlene Tessitore.

Tessitore said her daughters, both students at Memorial Middle School, were told they had to complete a Youth Risk Behavior Study.

“Kids were actually told to sit down and take them,” said John Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. “The parents here are very upset.”

Whitehead said the girls were deeply disturbed by the subject matter of the study – including questions about suicide, drug use and sexual behavior.

“One of the questions is, ‘have you ever had oral sex,’” Whitehead said. “You’re talking about kids who probably don’t even know what oral sex is.”

He said the survey also delved into even more graphic language.

“It’s adult material,” he told Fox News Radio, noting that one question asked students what method they used to prevent pregnancy during their last sexual encounter.

“It goes down a whole list, including birth control pills, condoms and one of the answers is ‘withdraw,’” Whitehead said. “Adults know what this is, but kids have to imagine or go online to find out what it means.”

Principal Fran Thomas told Fox News Radio that students were indeed given the survey – and admits it was graphic. But Thomas said the school has nothing to do with the content and they were required to administer the survey to fulfill a grant requirement.

“I can take no responsibility for what’s on that survey,” Thomas said. “It’s not generated by the school system.”

Thomas said the survey was funded by a federal grant and administered by LUK Inc., a local social services agency — in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control.

The organization’s leader did not return numerous calls for comment. But according to its website, LUK, Inc.’s mission is to “challenge and support youth & families to recognize and fulfill their unique and productive potential through community-based prevention, intervention and education services.”

A spokesperson for the CDC denied any involvement in the Fitchburg sex survey. The CDC said only seven states and six urban districts include sexual identity questions on their YRBS surveys – and the questions are optional.

But Principal Thomas disputed that notion.

“It was not optional,” he said. “It’s part of a grant that they applied for and the district said you have to administer this survey.”

According to Whitehead, parents were sent a “passive consent” opt-out form. However, Tessitore said she never received the form and never gave permission for her daughters to take part in the survey.

“It was a case of the school telling parents what they were going to do,” he said. “If parents want their kids to answer these kinds of questions as federal law requires, they should give written consent. But if they don’t give consent, I don’t think public officials should be asking children such questions.”

Thomas said he understands the concerns expressed by the parents. But should the middle school be asking children questions about oral sex?

“That’s not a question I’d be asking,” Thomas said. “That’s not information that needs to be gathered in an indiscriminate manner – asking every single student these sorts of questions.”

Thomas said it wasn’t appropriate. “I think there are many things that schools are called upon to do because they think they’ve got a captive audience,” he noted.

Whitehead wants the Department of Education to step in and demand that the Fitchburg school follow the law when it comes to parental consent.

“Parents send their children to public schools to receive an education; not to become subjects of governmental data mining,” Whitehead said.

SEIU wants to help Republicans! HUH?

according to the Sacramento Bee.
largest labor unions today advanced a plan intended to result in the election of more moderate (define moderate!) Republicans.

By creating a Republican political action committee, Service Employees International Union California officials say they hope to help send people from right-leaning areas to Sacramento who put practical solutions in front of strict conservative thinking.

“Our legislators are harangued by radio talk show hosts like John and Ken (oooo what about me!) and D.C. ideologues like Grover Norquist,” said
Bob Schoonover, president of SEIU Local 721 in Southern California.

Schoonover, a registered Republican, said lawmakers are afraid to do the right thing.

“We’ve lost the art of compromise that allows us to make deals in tough times,” he said.

Gov. Jerry Brown has yet to round up the four Republican votes needed to reach some sort of deal on sales, vehicle license and income taxes. Schoonover and three other registered Republicans from SEIU said in a conference call that sometimes revenue increases are needed but there could be other solutions as well.

“The problem is if you are not willing to move your position, that’s not a good way to solve problems,” Schoonover said.

The union says 87,000 of its 700,000 (real lopsided number) members are registered Republicans. With redrawn legislative boundaries looming and the creation of the top-two primary system, SEIU’s new leader Dave Kieffer has said this is the perfect time to start helping candidates to  extricate themselves from the grip of party extremists. SEIU is expected to launch its second ad campaign this weekend in the districts of current GOP legislators its officials believe could support Brown’s tax package.

“I feel the far right, the tea party, is hijacking my party, and it’s saddening,” said John Orr, a parking officer at California State University,
Fullerton. “I hope through this PAC, this effort and the open primary that moderates can regain their voice.”

The union’s Golden California Committee will spend as much money as is needed to ensure election of candidates who put a focus on
areas such as jobs, schools, health care for the young and elderly and public safety, Schoonover said.

“We are committed to a long-term political struggle to make sure middle-class families have a voice again,” he added.

Republican strategist Kevin Spillane said the union wouldn’t have a significant effect–no matter how much money the union spends.

“This is just sound and fury,” he said. “It’s political posturing to influence and intimidate some of the current Republican legislators. The
reality is that we’re not talking a real widespread impact in next year’s elections.”

Spillane added that union support would hurt Republican candidates in the eyes of Republican voters. Kieffer said on Wednesday that
strategists could make union support an issue in races, but it would not be one that SEIU couldn’t overcome.

DONT CELEBRATE FLAG DAY! unless you know why!

The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America’s birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as ‘Flag Birthday’. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as ‘Flag Birthday’, or ‘Flag Day’.

On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the following year, the New York Society of the Sons of the Revolution, celebrated Flag Day.

Following the suggestion of Colonel J Granville Leach (at the time historian of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution), the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames of America on April 25, 1893 adopted a resolution requesting the mayor of Philadelphia and all others in authority and all private citizens to display the Flag on June 14th. Leach went on to recommend that thereafter the day be known as ‘Flag Day’, and on that day, school children be assembled for appropriate exercises, with each child being given a small Flag.

Two weeks later on May 8th, the Board of Managers of the Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution unanimously endorsed the action of the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames. As a result of the resolution, Dr. Edward Brooks, then Superintendent of Public Schools of Philadelphia, directed that Flag Day exercises be held on June 14, 1893 in Independence Square. School children were assembled, each carrying a small Flag, and patriotic songs were sung and addresses delivered.

In 1894, the governor of New York directed that on June 14 the Flag be displayed on all public buildings. With BJ Cigrand and Leroy Van Horn as the moving spirits, the Illinois organization, known as the American Flag Day Association, was organized for the purpose of promoting the holding of Flag Day exercises. On June 14th, 1894, under the auspices of this association, the first general public school children’s celebration of Flag Day in Chicago was held in Douglas, Garfield, Humboldt, Lincoln, and Washington Parks, with more than 300,000 children participating.

Adults, too, participated in patriotic programs. Franklin K. Lane, Secretary of the Interior, delivered a 1914 Flag Day address in which he repeated words he said the flag had spoken to him that morning: “I am what you make me; nothing more. I swing before your eyes as a bright gleam of color, a symbol of yourself.”

Inspired by these three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day – the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 – was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. While Flag Day was celebrated in various communities for years after Wilson’s proclamation, it was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

D-Day was JUNE 6, 1944

D-Day was JUNE 6, 1944. 156,000 troops landed on the Normandy coast of France in the largest invasion force in history.

Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight Eisenhower issued the order:

“You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade…

The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you…

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened.

He will fight savagely…

Let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.”

President Franklin Roosevelt stated JUNE 6, 1944:

“My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation…

I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God, Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our Religion, and our Civilization…

They will need Thy blessings…

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.”

FDR concluded:

“Help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith to Thee.”

Honoring those who died for us!

Honoring those who died for us… or are we? A good number of Americans can’t tell you what Memorial Day is all about. While some will tell you it’s about a long weekend, others will say it’s another BBQ day. The real Americans will tell you that it is a day to honor those Americans who died to give us the FREEDOM to forget what the day is about, or to remember what the day was about. The freedom to go out on the lake or to the park with your family. The freedom to do just about anything you wants.

The Freedom to call President Obama inept, former President Bush a liar, and for former President Clinton to say “I never had sexual relations with that woman” several times. It is the freedom to openly ridicule our President, Government and troops to all the world without fear of becoming a political prisoner or being taken out back and being shot.

The ability to protest with out being killed, as you see happening in many countries.

I will tell you what I will be remembering… I will remember that it was American soldiers that freed my mother and her family from Italy in WWII, so that she could come here and we could have a better life. By today’s standards America would probably have been told they should have stayed out of that war also because the oppressed people didn’t actually ask for their help.

I will be remembering all the dead American soldiers that died for others all around the world so they could be free from communism or oppression from dictators so that others could enjoy the freedoms that we have.

I will remember how American lives were given on foreign soil, twice, to liberate France so they could have the freedom to come against us in many ways during these last few wars with terrorism. I will remember the how American lives were also given to liberate Germany so they could also have the freedom to come against last few wars with terrorism.

Some may say that we Americans think that we are so good and righteous that we need to be the “Policemen of the World”. I don’t think that is it at all. I think it’s no different than when most good Americans who aren’t wrapped up in their own lives or agendas see another person in real need, stop and help, without any need for repayment.

What I will be trying to forget is all the bitterness that I hear in the news. I read in the paper how the world is outraged at the way we Americans are treating the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, while there is virtually nothing written about the DEAD American bodies being dragged through the streets of IRAQ.

I will be trying to forget all the pictures of the destruction being shown to us from oversees and trying to envision some of the articles I have read about Americans rebuilding schools, hospitals, and homes and the children having places of education, with electricity and hot running water, and the AMERICAN soldiers who put themselves in harms way to protect others who can’t protect themselves.

I will be remembering the 9/11 victims. Not because they were brave soldiers, but because we can’t let it happen again… here or anywhere else.

A sincere thanks to all the AMERICANS that selflessly gave their lives, be it by death or by service in the armed forces, who have made this country a safer place for me and my family. I only wish I could repay the debt.

May God continue to bless you and your families.

Metro BABY sexuals take on a whole new meaning!

People we have come into a whole new era of stupidity and political correctness (I think they are one in the same).
They say they don’t want to limit “IT’s” options! Like what? Peeing standing up or sitting down? COME ON PEOPLE!

What’s next, they won’t name anything: grass, floor, ceiling, milk, banana because they don’t want to limit “IT’s” choices?
When they want the baby to clap its ???? I would call them hands. What’s the baby going to call them?

The parents said that a PERSON should not be defined by what “IT” has between its legs…

YES IT SHOULD, male or female, doesn’t matter what it wants to be or thinks it is!

It can act as a male if it’s a female or the other way, BUT at the doctor or hospital it will be described as a “white male, age 2 or whatever” so the doctors know how to treat and diagnose “IT”.

Like I keep saying, we as a people have lost our sense of direction.

Pennsylvania gets all CONSERVATIVE on us!

The Pennsylvania legislature decided they needed to do something positive. The bill passed passed the Senate today with a bi-partisan vote of 40-9. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? It’s wonderful a legislature that actually looks at the actual issues and decides to do something about it. No welfare, medicaid, in-state college tuition just to name a few.

ALL applicants have to prove they are in the state LEGALLY before receiving any services.

Can we do a foreign exchange thing, send our guys to PA and take their guys here for a few months?

Texas where common sense reigns! Voter ID now required.

This critical law will be a BIG blow to cities like Houston that are saturated with voter fraud. Wisconsin and South Carolina are next. We will keep fighting until this is law in every state in the union

The Texas House has sent Gov. Rick Perry a bitterly debated bill that would require Texas voters to show photo identification before casting a ballot.

Monday’s 98-46 vote sends to Perry’s desk a measure he called an “emergency” item for the session. His signature will give Republicans a major victory in a bitter partisan debate that has raged for several years.

Republicans say photo identification is needed as a safeguard to prevent voter fraud.

Democrats say it will make it harder for poor and minority Texans to vote and is designed to boost Republicans margins in elections.

Why do the Jews align with the Democrats?

I asked Larry why the Jews gravitated towards the Democrats. I was VERY surprised at his response.

Jews tend to hold education in high esteem, they believe in self reliance, no hand outs for themselves but
are always willing to give a hand up to others. I went to all boys Jewish camp for many years as a young
child, and it was no secret that I was the little Catholic boy there, never had a negative moment.

“Allahu Akbar,” or Arabic for “God is great,”

Not trying to be cold here but, close your eyes envision a man of Arabic decent, charging the door of an air plane in flight screaming  “Allahu Akbar,” or Arabic for “God is great,” leave you with the feeling of peace and tranquility? I think not, actually I would have to check my underwear before jumping up to take action. and then it gets better at the court appearance his attorney, Assistant Federal Public Defender Elizabeth Falk, argued that her client was not a public danger. Unless in a plane cruising at 450 mph at an altitude of 15,000 plus feet.

Presidential Popularity Obama and Carter?

All presidents back to Truman seem to keep heading in negative territory BUT Einsenhower seemed to hold his popularity all the way through. What made him so popular?  and you would be surprised to know that Obama is just a tick above George W. same time in his Presidency and well above Clinton.

You couldn’t wait for Barbie to grow up?

Look, I knew I would never get Barbie, not because she didn’t exist in my mind but because we didn’t have tall long legged
blond blue eyed women where I was and if we did they were covered most of the winter and even if they shed their winter weight
they wore T-shirts over their swim suits in the summertime. So how could you tell?

SO a young lady from Oregon decided to build a life size model using the scale as the doll was made.

Not someone I want to be with.  Check out her story CLICK!

“The goal in creating Barbie’s likeness was to start conversation. “Talking about eating disorders is taboo to many people, and this made people talk about it,” Slayen said. “It’s a shocking image. A lot of people have seen it, and it’s started debates,” she said, particularly after she wrote about it for the Huffington Post. “Her proportions are not 100 percent correct, but her look is not invalid.” Check out more on this CLICK!

The “VMT” its a good thing?

The administration says they know the “little guy is hurting” if that’s true then why tax the little guy when he is going to work to make money and pay tax, Think about it we are paying taxes to go to work to pay more taxes. How does that work (or not work)?

You realize we pay taxes on the car, yearly taxes to operate the car, taxes when we maintain the car, special taxes when we buy tires for the car that we NOW HAVE TO PAY TO WEAR DOWN AND PAY MILEAGE TAX..

Yes for you “Internet Illiterates” I was yelling!

and knowing how fond our President is of technology.
Check this out..

“Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax
could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine
how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.”

That’s cool, I don’t want to pay it but that’s really cool!

10 ways to know if your in an abusive relationship?

Did we really need to spend the money on this. The money needs to be spend on this early. Instead of teaching Sex Education in the 6th grade why don’t we teach both boys and girls about how to treat each other?

According to the Huffington Post here are a few signs…

Watch out if your guy:

  1. Is so crazy about you he wants to settle in as soon as you meet.
  2. Is really, weirdly jealous. (He should be uncomfortable if you go away for the weekend with your ex-boyfriend, but if he accuses you of flirting with every guy you encounter — the waiter, the cashier, a gay buddy — it’s a red flag.)
  3. Texts so much, it sometimes creeps you out.
  4. Doesn’t think your friends and family value you enough, or even at all.
  5. Also watch out if:

  6. You are always tired because he keeps you up at night.
  7. You’re always explaining to people “I can’t go.”
  8. Your anxiety soars if you’re just a few minutes late — you know how upset he’ll be.
  9. Things are always your fault.
  10. You get a lot of apology emails or make-up gifts from him.
  11. You find you don’t do anything without him, or without him approving of it.

Run if:

  • !! You find out he had a violent relationship with a former girlfriend.
  • !! He stalks you — at work, online, with GPS in your car.
  • !! He beats up a teammate or has a punch-out in a bar.
  • !! He’s ever been cruel to animals.
  • !!! He is ever physically violent to you.

And if you’re worried about a friend? She might be in trouble if:

  1. She starts saying she can’t come to things you invite her to (because she has to be with her boyfriend).
  2. When you’re with her, she’s always on-edge about returning his messages immediately or being late to meet him.
  3. She has bruises or scratches she can’t explain or tells you they were caused by an accident.
  4. She stops doing things she loved before meeting the guy — hobbies, shopping, school, even working.
  5. You just feel like you’re losing her.

SLUT walks break out in several cities!

Let me start by saying I don’t believe ANYONE should be mistreated because of the way they dress.

With that said should woman who dress provocatively or “slutty” expect that they will not be
treated differently? Men are animals, (woman are too) if you have parts and pieces well defined by your clothing and
dress in a way that draw attraction to yourself. You have expectations that you WILL be treate3d a certain way.

A woman in an interview stated “over 40% of girls raped are under 18, do you think they want to get raped?”
give me a break no they don’t…    However you don’t know they don’t want to have sex with everyone they come in
contact with because every part of what they have that NATURALLY excited a male (and young males
have not learned control yet) The young ladies are looking for attention, just not the kind they end up getting.

Women who dress more modestly are less likely to attract the kind of attention that lead to these violent incidents.

With that said there have been several “Slut Walks” that broke out in several cities across America and in Canada.
they are promoting slutty attire, WHY?

Whats the upside. Girl and boys (men and women) who live lives of promiscuity tend to have more issues and a harder
time with long term relationships than the more conservative lifestyles.

This whole thing started with an “off handed” comment that if “women avoided dressing like sluts they would not be raped”

I don’t like that line of thinking, they should not have to worry about that BUT, such is society at this time.

Westboro Baptist Church – God is NOT with you!

On Saturday USMC Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers, who was killed in action in Afghanistan April 7, was buried in Brandon, Mississippi. That, by itself, is a sadly unremarkable – though certainly noteworthy and solemn – occasion for us to mark.  And in fact when Sgt. Rogers’ body returned to Brandon it was greeted by hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of well-wishers who gathered at the roadside to honor the fallen American hero.  What is most notable about Sgt. Rogers’ funeral in Brandon, however, is what didn’t happen.

You see, the troglodytes from Westboro Baptist Church had threatened to spew their poison at Sgt. Rogers’ funeral. But the Westboro mob wasn’t on the scene, and Sgt. Rogers was laid to rest without incident – thank God. Why weren’t there protestors? Planning ahead by the locals, as it turns out.

From an Ole Miss sports message board, a tidbit of information…

A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his arse waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.

Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that most will never know about and at great expense to the county.

Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out.

A few made it to the funeral but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their business

Do you know elections don’t matter?

Perhaps it’s sour grapes, or perhaps it’s a recent reawakening, but in a speech by Nancy Pelosi at Tufts University earlier this week, the former speaker of the House had some advice for her Republican colleagues in particular and some reflections on elections in general:

To my Republican friends: take back your party. So that it doesn’t matter so much who wins the election, because we have shared values about the education of our children, the growth of our economy, how we defend our country, our security and civil liberties, how we respect our seniors. Because there are so many things at risk right now — perhaps in another question I’ll go into them, if you want. But the fact is that elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do…But when it comes to a place where there doesn’t seem to be shared values then that can be problematic for the country, as I think you can see right now.

This seems like a bit of change for Pelosi, who in 2009 suggested that the results of a special election in the 23rd Congressional District of New York were a big win for health care

UN thinks Mother Earth has feelings

April 22 as “International Mother Earth Day.” The measure was endorsed by all 192 member states. But Bolivian President Evo Morales envisioned much more, vowing in a speech to U.N. delegates that a global movement had begun to lay “out a Declaration on the Rights of Mother Earth.”

Morales, who repeatedly says “the central enemy of Mother Earth is capitalism,” called for creating a charter that defends the right to life for all living things. Morales, who was named World Hero of Mother Earth by the General Assembly, has since made great strides in his campaign.

In January, Bolivia became the world’s first nation to grant the natural environment equal rights to humans. Bolivia’s Law of Mother Earth is heavily influenced by the spiritual indigenous Andean world outlook that revolves around the earth deity Pachamama, roughly translated to Mother Earth.

The Bolivian law establishes 11 rights for nature that include: the right to life and to exist; the right to pure water and clean air; the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered; the right to have nature’s processes free from human alteration. The law also establishes a Ministry of Mother Earth to act as an ombudsman, which will ensure nature is “not being affected my mega-infrastructure and development projects that affect the balance of ecosystems and the local inhabitant communities.”

FREE Condoms for 11 year olds!

Condom availability for children as young as 11 is controversial, and Bell admits it’s no “panacea.”

But child development experts say introduction to sex education early on is important.

Dr. Eugene Beresin, a professor at Harvard University and director of training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General and McLean hospitals in Boston, said he was in favor of policies aimed at younger children.

“If kids are taught and have access to counseling, there’s a better chance of abstinence being maintained and the risk of STDs is diminished,” he said.

But, he said, condom distribution should not be the “flagship” of sex education.

“Let’s face it,” he said. “You can’t stop kids from having sex if they want to. It would be great if they hold off, but we can’t stop it. What we can do is improve responsibility. So while we have to be thoughtful about randomly distributing condoms in the first grades, sex behavior and its consequences are part of the lives of young teens through young adulthood.”
