Arizona Democrat Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has been assigned law enforcement protection after receiving death threats over her opposition to the state’s election recount.
According to reports, Arizona’s GOP Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered Arizona Department of Public Safety protection for Hobbs.
C.J. Karamargin, a spokesperson for Ducey’s office, confirmed that Ducey ordered the protection.
“We take threats of violence very seriously and they are unacceptable,” he said.
Hobbs spokesperson Sophia Solis said in an email that the office requested the security detail.
“Our office reached out to the governor’s staff requesting a security detail in light of recent death threats she has been receiving and after she was chased by a man she did not recognize yesterday,” Solis wrote.
Hobbs also tweeted about her request.
Democrats are very worried about the election audit taking place in Arizona.
The Biden Department of Justice has sent a letter to Arizona Senate President Karen Fann taking issue with Maricopa County’s forensic audit of the 2020 election.
The letter is from Pamela Karlan, the principal deputy assistant attorney general of the Civil Rights Division.
