BLM flag Trumps Stars and Strips!

The University of North Texas student government president posted a photo of her standing beside what United States flag covered up with a Black Lives Matter flag in what appears to be the student government office.

Yolian Ogbu, who was recently elected president of the UNT Student Government Association (SGA), took to Twitter Wednesday to post “before vs after” images of her covering the U.S. flag with a flag that features a white fist on a black background with white block letters reading “BLACK LIVES MATTER.”

The red and white stripes of the American flag can still be seen through the white material of the Black Lives Matter flag along with the final red stripe. The images were posted as a response to a May tweet by Ogbu in which she wrote: “what if i just replace the american flag with the blm flag in the sga office….”

The incident occurred in what appears to be the UNT SGA office space, although it is not clear on whose office wall the flags are hung. Several postsfrom the official UNT SGA social media accounts show the office space where the U.S. flag can be clearly seen in the background.

A few of Ogbu’s followers have responded to the post writing things like “growth” and “that’s MY president!”

According to U.S. flag code, “the flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

Ogbu, SGA, and the University of North Texas media relations office did not respond to requests for comment in time for publication.
