Individual Freedom

While the personalities who receive their livelihood from entertainment, news, music, arts, etc. applaud and support the decision by Colin Kaepernick to sit out while the fans, players and coaches stand in respect to the National Anthem, I am believing that America is still going down an undefined thought that confuses individual freedom and the freedom you participate in and receive as a citizen of this great Country.

Let’s look at this from another view. If there is an employee working for a large company whose products are distributed globally and in one of those places, someone is in complete disagreement with this employee’s personal beliefs, but are completely within the boundaries of a fair and ethical store. In the next month, your company is going to honor them… would you refuse to go? Even though the corporation has asked you to go? Or do you feel that your individual freedom can be utilized at all costs… even in defiance to your employer?

The only way that the principles and traditions of our forefathers when they discussed and defined individual freedom in America was solely this… if you were in disagreement and no longer were going to stay within the boundaries, rules and operation of your employer…and the employer desired for you to be a team player and you did not want to…

You can quit.

Freedom must be used in the clarity of thought and objective. There is no one around that will tell you what Colin Kaepernick is desiring to do is going to happen. There will not be a state of perfection in the oppression of people. I am not being mean when I say this. And yes, there are always ways to improve how we live in our society. But with that in mind, he will forever sit during our Anthem without any clear thought of what he is desiring. He simply has no purpose but to be ignorant of what individual freedom means.

The Apostle Paul wrote of this when he wrote a letter to the people in Corinth…

“I have the right to do anything” you say- but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”- but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good but the good of others. ~ 1 Corinthians 10 23-24

What Mr. Kaepernick has clearly done, is protest something that is impossible.

Only God is perfect and only a society in which He governs is perfect. America is not perfect, but it is the greatest country in the world. May any future protests be in the betterment of society, not in opposition to the dissolution of thought and purpose without clear and beneficial objectives.

Tom Julian
Educated in the State of Washington, Tom Julian was one of the few chosen to intern with The Washington State Attorney General, Ken Eikenberry...but for reasons unknown, Tom did not pursue a law degree. Instead, Tom went to Hollywood to develop television shows. Fortunately, over the course of a few years, Tom was able to produce two Nationally Syndicated Television shows and then he was blessed to spend close to twenty years working with Fortune 500 companies in the design and manufacture of their product packaging... Apple and Callaway Golf were just a couple of the many. Today he is a full-time writer and producer. When Tom isn't writing or playing golf he loves to think, jot down ideas, buy more flash drives to store the written material and drink coffee with just the correct amount of creme to make the coffee turn a caramel color.
