In 1994, during The National Prayer Breakfast, Mother Teresa gave a powerful and strong pro-life speech. She was brave to speak in front of the then-President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary, both pro-abortion supporters.
On it, she stressed the importance of love as a tool to fight abortion:
And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even His life to love us.
She encouraged people to reflect that killing a baby it is an act of violence and violence does not solve anything.
Columnist of the Wall Street Journal Peggy Noonan, who was present at The National Prayer Breakfast, described the enthusiastic response of the audience but also mentioned the cold reaction of the Clintons:
Applause started on the right hand side of the room, and spread, and deepened, and now the room was swept with people applauding, and they would not stop for what I believe was five or six minutes …
But not everyone applauded. The president and first lady, seated within a few feet of Mother Teresa on the dais, were not applauding. …They glistened in the lights and moved not a muscle, looking at the speaker in a determinedly semi-pleasant way.
It is really a shame that Hillary Clinton and her husband decided to ignore such touching and wise speech, and still encourage abortion.
During her 2016 campaign, Hillary continues to advocate for legal abortion and Planned Parenthood claiming that is a woman’s right to decide whether she has as a baby or not. She believes she is helping women by granting them a choice, but who is helping the unborn children?
After feeling the sincere concern about the babies in Mother Teresa‘s voice, it is difficult to support current policies that legalize abortion. There are many people who wonder what the next president would do solve this issue.
Although it has been more than a decade, people, especially politicians, should remember that Mother Teresa said:
Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.
