Last Wednesday, at the White House Summit on Global Development, President Obama claimed that

“So it is worth reminding ourselves of how lucky we are to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history,”

He also said:

“Because the world has never been less violent, healthier, better educated, more tolerant, with more opportunity for more people, and more connected than it is today”

In his speech, he argues that democratic states have increased, that major powers are not in war, and that technology helps people to connect with each other are indicators that “the world have never been less violent.”

Apparently, the president lives in a different world than the rest of us. Because in this world, even though states are not fighting against each other, many countries such Germany, France, and Afghanistan were subjected to violent terrorist attacks this week alone. Moreover, thanks to globalization, instability, and inequality have growth in many countries.

Mr. President, you must understand that most people in the world would disagree with you.
