Give me Liberty, or give me Death

Which clients do short tax accountants like best?
Small businesses. OH GOOD THAT’s ME!

Who makes the best detective – Sherlock Holmes or a tax accountant?
The tax accountant – she makes more deductions.

Yea, yea, we’ve heard all the jokes about tax day. But taxes can be the death of us. Do you remember who said, “Give me liberty or give me death”? Patrick Henry did in a speech to the Virginia Convention in 1775, as America was newly born and seeking independence.

Two years earlier, a group of citizens from Boston, known as the Sons of Liberty, threw tea into the sea in protest for high tariffs on tea.

From the beginning, Americans have stood up against what they view as unfair — from taxes to suppression of religious liberties, to corruption. We may  not like paying taxes, but it is part of our duty as American citizens. Pay to Caesar what is Caesar’s, so to speak.

And yes, we should not tolerate excessive taxation to the point that it becomes “taxation without representation.” That is why this election is crucial. We don’t want to lose our representation, our liberties, and our pocketbooks. We stand for freedom and down with tyranny, just as the colonists did.

So on that note, Happy April 15th! Payday and tax day!
