The head of the famous Duck Dynasty clan, Phil Robertson, has made his long-awaited presidential pick and it should come as no surprise — in an election season filled with many surprises — who he is endorsing.
Phil Robertson, a conservative Christian who has great respect for the Founding Fathers and the U.S. Constitution, announced in a video on Wednesday that he is supporting Texas Senator Ted Cruz to be the nation’s next president.
“My qualifications for president of the United States are rather narrow: Is he or she Godly, does he or she love us, can he or she do the job, and finally would they kill a duck and put him in a pot and make him a good duck gumbo?” Robertson said. “Cruz fits the bill.”
A joint video announcement, called “Cruz Commander,” a play on the name of the family business “Duck Commander,” shows Phil Robertson and Ted Cruz on a joint duck hunting trip, Robertson tells Cruz, “You’re one of us,” and “The time is now.”
