Thanks, Liberals! NY Times Poll Shows Left’s Gun Control Rhetoric Strengthening Support For Gun Rights

Modern politics is a science of understanding reactions. Principles are well and good, but without an understanding of which way the political winds are blowing, one cannot be elected or hold a place in a national conversation. Though the left blasts Donald Trump and Ted Cruz for their “extreme” positions on several important issues, the fact is that these stances resonate with a sizeable percentage of the population.

They may call it “extreme,” but for millions of Americans, these positions are just called “common sense.” Understanding what Americans want is key to rising through the ranks.

One must also understand when a narrative has fallen flat. The Obama Administration and the orbiting hordes of liberal tyrants all parrot the same obnoxious rhetoric concerning the supposed need for stricter anti-Second Amendment laws. What they have failed to realize, however, is that not only do the majority of Americans reject these calls, but have repeatedly rejected these calls and further, the obnoxious crying out for increased gun control laws have actually yielded an uptick in support for the Second Amendment!

In a recent New York Times poll, the notoriously liberal paper asked a loaded question: “Do you favor or oppose a nationwide ban on assault weapons?”

For the first time in 20 years, the paper recorded that the majority of Americans oppose such a ban. 50% answered “no,” 44% answered “yes” and 6% answered “I don’t know.”

That the majority of Americans oppose increased gun control efforts is hardly news- this has been the case time and time again.

What this signifies, however, is that despite the selection bias of the poll and the loaded question which uses the completely fabricated and scary-sounding term “assault weapons,” even the liberals who would associate with the New York Times have to admit that they would oppose such a ban.

To offer an analogy, this would be like going into a Texas gun shop and asking, “Do you support the traitorous bureaucrat Hillary Clinton?” and still receiving a majority of patrons answering in the affirmative. They rigged the question and still received the majority of those polled answering in the affirmative.

AWR Hawkins at Breitbart gives a break-down of the poll:

According to NYU political scientist Patrick Egan, the opposition to such a ban is up 16 percentage points from the numbers seen in 2011. Moreover, support for an “assault weapons” ban is down 19 percent. On January 15-19, 2011 Americans polled at 63 percent in favor of a ban and 34 against. On December 4-8, 2015, American polled only 44 percent in favor of such a ban, with 50 percent polling in opposition.

The real swing in numbers can be seen by contrasting the latest figures with the first pollNYT took on the topic during January 2-3, 1995. At that time support for a ban was at 67 percent, while opposition to a ban was at 27 percent.

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows and you don’t need a political scientist to decipher this trend; the Supreme Court has made it clear, Congress has made it clear and American people have made it clear and they all are rejecting these calls for increased anti-Second Amendment laws.

With no leg to stand on, the only option left for America’s first dictator is to issue more unconstitutional executive orders to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights.

However, any student of history can attest that tyrants have long feared armed peasants… and for good reason.
