According to the Chicago Tribune, a huge manhunt is underway about an hour north of Chicago for three suspects wanted in the shooting death of a Fox Lake, Illinois police officer.

Early this morning, the unnamed officer was on patrol when he began a foot pursuit of three men–two white and on black–who were acting suspiciously. All contact was lost with the officer and later his body “was found in a marshy area, stripped of his gun and other gear.” He was dead at the scene.

Local schools are on lockdown, residents are advised to stay indoors, and service on Metra’s Milwaukee District North train line has been halted until further notice.

“Every law enforcement agency in the area, along with a regional SWAT team, [is] assisting, according to George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.”

This is a developing story.
