Today, President Obama and the Affordable Health Care act gained a victory in the Supreme Court when, by a vote of 6 to 3, they ruled that all Obamacare consumers can be granted subsidies no matter if they’re run by an exchange or by healthcare.gov. If the plaintiffs had won, six million Americans would have lost subsidies.
The reason the justices made the decision was because of a line in the Affordable Health Care Act that read: “the federal government will give subsidies to eligible consumers who buy insurance from an exchange “established by the State.”” Scalia said it should be called SCOTUSCare because so many healthcare cases have come to them.
Look for more announcements for the remaining five cases, including the gay marriage one, either tomorrow or Monday.
