Students at Massachusetts Bedford High School took the initiative to create a video addressing what they considered to be a problem of racism and discrimination. They entitled their PSA “Sh*t White People Say”. They may be exercising their 1st Amendment rights, but it doesn’t sound like they’re going to bring unity on campus anytime soon.
And school administrators allowed the video to be shown during the morning announcements… to the ENTIRE school.
Forget the fact that a black female student wearing a blonde wig (pretending to be a white person) is the “host.” The content is demeaning to white people. As if that were justified because they feel demeaned. Newsflash… it’s not ok for anyone to intentionally demean anyone else.
Now I’m sure they’ll say this was meant to be lighthearted comedy. But these aren’t comedians and this issue is serious. It should have been dealt with differently.
Let me know what you think. Ok? or not ok? And if this should have been acceptable, then why wasn’t this 2nd grader’s performance of MLK ok? He was assigned the role. He couldn’t help that he was white.
