Ann Coulter is getting crucified for not hugging an illegal immigrant woman during Q/A at a recent interview on Fusion with Jorge Ramos. Of course, the media is suggesting (or blatantly saying) that she wouldn’t hug the woman because she was an illegal.
But was it really because she was an illegal immigrant, or because she doesn’t go around hugging strangers?
Ann doesn’t really seem like the “huggiest” person on the planet. And given how she’s a lightning rod for all sorts of things and a celebrity (like it or not), I suspect her guard is up when perfect strangers make such odd, personal, and physically touchy advances toward her.
AND … as if that weren’t enough… the woman didn’t identify herself as an illegal until AFTER Ann rejected the hug request.
SOOOO why is this such a big news item? The only logical answer is… a smear campaign. As Ann said on another interview today… if she’d hugged the woman and shared her flu germs the headlines would read “Ann Coulter infects illegal immigrant.” She’s probably right. She’s obviously used to being in no-win situations.
