Good news for those of you who wish you were a lesbian, but aren’t. The University of South Carolina Upstate (USCU) is offering a 1 hour seminar. Well, they were. Now they’re not. Sorry. You missed out on tthis one.
The seminar (also termed, performance art and satire) How to Become a Lesbian in 10 Days or Less was scheduled to be a motivational addition to the Bodies of Knowledge symposium. It was meant to encourage LGBT folks in their journey.
Well, not everyone was motivated as intended. Questions as to who was funding this seminar arose. It is a state (read: taxpayer) funded school. And questions as to why the school was “recruiting” lesbians when LGBT is supposedly a genetic predisposition were also asked. Among others!
In short, all Hell broke loose. A couple of state senators got involved and now the school, which was previously defending their posture of offering diverse educational perspectives, has now canceled the “show” (wasn’t is a seminar last week?) and deemed it a “distraction.”
You can read more of the original story here and the subsequent cancellation here.
