Sure, you can ban the word “bossy.” But that doesn’t guarantee that another word with similar impact won’t be used.

How many hurtful words can we ban from the English language? And does that really solve anything?

We’re always so concerned about hurt feelings and hurting someone’s self-esteem. What we really need to do is start teaching our kids how to handle when those things happen. Teach them to overcome. Teach them to prove them wrong and succeed anyway.

Hurts will come. It’s just part of life. Learning to handle them with strength of character will go a lot further than teaching them not to say another word like “bossy.”
