Hey Americans, we are bombing Libya… NO JOKE!

Did you know, that on Monday, the US military forces started bombing targets in Libya? Due to lack of proper media coverage, many Americans are clueless that the president has sent pilots to bomb ISIS targets.

It is true that the US President, as the Commander-in-Chief, can send military forces to any part of the world. However, why did President Obama or the Defense Secretary neglect to inform the American public about such an important decision? Do we, as American citizens, have no right to know about it?

Another interesting fact is that:

During his Senate confirmation hearings in June 2016, General Waldhauser  [the commander of US Africa Command] acknowledged to Senator John McCain that he “was not aware of any overall grand strategy” to defeat ISIS in Libya.

Since the US did not have a plan against ISIS a month ago, it is more likely that those attacks are not coordinated by the US military forces. It seems that the US has become a military-on-demand service whose troops respond to another government since the US is bombing the places that the Libyan government is telling it to do.

From many years, political figures have been arguing that the US has become a hired military force since it is expected to send its military support whenever and wherever is required.

Former Democratic Congresswoman Pat Schroeder of Colorado made a name for herself in national security in the 1980s riding just such a theme.  Her famous formula is captured in this delightful antique from the Orlando Sentinel in 1988:

…Rep. Patricia Schroeder, D-Colo…heads the special House panel examining the issue of who pays what.

”Our allies are doing less than they were in 1980 because President Reagan has been so quick to pick up the check,” she said. ”They’ve got a situation of ‘Dial 1-800-USA, and we come running.”’

Sadly, what in the past may be considered exaggeration of politicians, today is a cruel reality.
