Monday night football was only yesterday, but already the trending hashtag on social media was #batgate. Remember last year we had #deflategate? So now…what the heck?

NFL official says Seattle should have been penalized in Monday night’s game against the Lions when one of their players batted a fumble out of the end zone. Otherwise, the Lions might have won.

“With the Detroit Lions closing in on a touchdown, which could have capped an improbable comeback against the Seahawks late in the fourth quarter, the officials incorrectly gave Seattle possession after a Calvin Johnson fumble was batted out of the end zone by A Seahawks linebacker. The Lions trailed 13-10 with 1:51 left when Johnson lunged for the end zone from the 1 yard line, but Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor punched the ball out of his hands just short of the goal line. Wright then knocked the ball out of the back of the end zone, which is illegal, according to NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino.”

Well, we’re human. But what’s next in the world of sports? Bat, bat, bats…
