No need to REVISE history, just REPLACE it… with anthropology

Here’s the thing… they’re allowing “anthropology” to replace the “history” requirement. You don’t need to “revise” history if you just make it “obsolete”.

Sacramento State University seems to think that anthropology is an acceptable equivalent to history when it comes to general education requirements for graduation. What student, given a choice, will willingly choose to take a history course, when the alternative courses have “sex” in the course description?

Here’s what the Sacramento Bee says they will be missing out on as a result:

the Progressive Era, World War I, women’s suffrage, the Great Depression, FDR, the New Deal, World War II, McCarthyism, the Cold War, the Korean War, the nuclear arms race, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the JFK assassination, Freedom Summer, the United Farm Workers Union, the Vietnam War, Stonewall, Watergate, Second Wave Feminism, the Iranian hostage crisis, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, globalization, the 9/11 attacks, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The whole purpose for knowing history is to avoid repeating it. If they don’t learn it, then what? We’re doomed to repeat. Mark my words…
