Help me fill in the blank. College students need sex week because _____________.

Last week, Northwestern University hosted “Sex Week.” I’m still not sure why colleges need a sex week. I thought every week was sex week at college? At least, that’s what I’ve been told by many who’ve attended. (I can’t speak from personal experience on this one.)

As if, by the time our children have graduated from high school, they haven’t already been fully educated on sex. If it didn’t come through the school district, you can be sure they got it from MTV.

Northwestern is definitely pushing the envelope with seminars this year. Here’s an excerpt from CampusReform.org’s coverage of the story:

“Vulvas too confusing? Having trouble masturbating? Wanna please your consenting female-bodied friend?” asks the “Cum*tactics” event description

Sadly, there was no seminar on traditional marriage or abstinence. What fun would that be anyway, right?

Ahhh… remember the days when colleges and universities prepared students for careers? Oh, those were the days…

You can see the Northwestern Sex Week agenda here and read more about the event. here.

Sex week is an aim to inform college students that there is no such thing as “asking for it”, because apparently that’s not something that is generally taught anymore. It’s an effort to encourage safe sex, as well, so stuents don’t end up having children and having to drop out because they can’t afford tuition. It’s not just some week dedicated to having sex

Erin, If that’s what the focus was, I would have no problem with it. But based on some of the course/seminar names, that’s not all it is, nor does it appear to be the primary focus. That’s where I think it crosses a line that should not be crossed.

If they haven’t figured out what having safe sex is, and how too prevent pregnancy, before even getting too college, that’s pretty sad.
